Let’s talk music

I have been trying to write about this topic for more than a month, so it’s time to make an imperfect post. I cannot recall exactly when my love for music shifted; it went from just enjoying having the same 20 songs on repeat to finding sets online and local places with real Djs playing.

If I have to point to start of this journey, it would probably be this mix, two guys playing for three people in a living room. This mix, believe me, I have heard more times than I can recall. Why? The tempo of the mix goes from chill to a little more intense just in the right way; some of songs are memorable (Second Guess and Disco Royale), and the vibe of the video is captivating.

And was this the only one? Not at all, there’s another gem that also gave me hours of solo dancing: quality time radio. In this one, Kathleen just plugged vinyl after vinyl, gave us a small explanation, and time to embrace what was going on. One hour of pure delight, to play with friends, and once again getting new music. I loved the funky songs, the groovy, the high energy, and vibrant voices. And the songs were from 1972 to 2019! You gotta trust me, it’s such a drive.

Finally, if you’re someone who knows me, you’re asking yourself. What happened with the electronic, minimal and techno? The problem is that I found so many of them. We have Solomun, who released mixes on SoundCloud every month for a solid year, Joris Voorn with his Minimal and Acid mixes, Alex Amster releasing also nice Vinyl Mixes, and Yoyaku Record Store with artists and mixes that I haven’t even finished. It’s too much, I know, But I will give one in this style: Octa Octa. This is a set that you’ll play in a rave forest at 3 am to wake up the masses during the coldest part of the night; I was in need of one like this summer. Start it and book the next hour, because you will not want to stop it.

So that’s it, a small gesture to the music I love and enjoy.
